"The Civil War Goes to Hollywood" Inquiry Unit—Year 7
Every significant moment in history has been created by many small, yet defining, events that impact society. The Civil War helped to shape America. There were many significant events that led to the start of the war. The election of President Abraham Lincoln and the subsequent succession of the southern states set the stage for one of America’s most definitive conflicts.
Many movies have been made over the years about the Civil War that are historically inaccurate. People are not interested in seeing another film that changes facts for the sake of a good story. They want something educational, and that’s where you come in.
Your group has been asked to represent your school in a contest at the local library. They are holding a filmmaking competition focusing on the Civil War. You are required to create a movie trailer featuring four critical events that led to the Civil War. You are to choose the four events you feel are the most significant to the start of the war.
To reach the final round of the competition, your group must make a 4-minute trailer to promote your movie. This trailer will prove that your film will be historically accurate and include four of the most important events that helped cause the Civil War.
Each group will write a script for the trailer, and will need to include the date, location, prominent historical figures, and accurate accounts of the event.
